So, there are officially less than 50 days to go until the 2017 Admiral Swansea Bay 10k! We at Enjoy Swansea Bay love a good personal story, and so alongside our Active Swansea 10k Club, we’ve asked the newest member of our team to blog her experience as she trains for our very own Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on 24 September.
Here’s what Georgia has to say..
In a moment of post-holiday madness, I’ve decided to don my running gear, finally bite the bullet and submit my entry in for this years’ race in Swansea Bay.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m by no means a ‘runner’ but this won’t be my first 10k… Ok, I’ve done ONE 10k before but one is better than nothing right?! Seeing as the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k course is an ideal fast, flat course, I’m aiming to beat my current race PB of 56:00.
I work at a desk Monday-Friday 8.30-5pm so don’t get much exercise in during the day.
But as a member of the Active Swansea Leisure Centres, I’ll be sure to make the most of both the cardio and weights machines on those glorious summer days… when it’s tipping it down with rain. I’ve actually just arranged my first 1-2-1 session next week at Penlan, I’ll keep you posted soon and let you know how I get on.
Other than working and trying to exercise, I’m a sucker for a coffee and a good piece of cake (particularly white chocolate cheesecake) and also enjoy taking my little dog, Buddy, out for long walks across the beach. My other hobbies include serial window-shopping for handbags I can’t afford and watching Love Island (but I won’t divulge my passion for that here)

Since I’ve just given you a brief insight to myself and my life, I think it’s time to put a face to the name. Here’s a snap of me after my 10k I did back in July – very tired, very sweaty, and very, very sunburnt.
After the Wales 10k in Tenby
These summer evenings are the perfect time to train (if we ever get some sunshine that is) and so next week I’m planning an exercise class, 5k run, weights session and a 7k (maybe 8k if I’m up to it) run along the prom.
Be sure to check back here each week to keep up with my training updates, right up until the big day on Sunday 24 September! If you fancy taking up the challenge with me, be sure to get your entry in here by Thursday 31 August.
We also have our junior 1k, 3k and 5k races so why not get the whole family involved in what is sure to be a fantastic day (note: junior races are only available to under 16’s and not adults – trust me I’ve already checked) Enter online here by Saturday 9 September.
Wish me luck with my first week back!
